Guillermo Roel

About Guillermo Roel

Mexico City

Guillermo Roel is a Mexican painter and visual artist whose career is characterised by a sustained exploration of organic abstraction, calligraphy and the material qualities of paint. His work examines the relationships between matter and structure, the vibration of the brushstroke, and the search for formal synthesis within a contemporary visual language. Using fluid forms and pigments with a restrained compositional balance, Roel creates surfaces where containment and movement coexist.

Over more than three decades, Roel has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions at galleries, cultural centres and institutions in Mexico, the United States, France and Spain. His work is held in public and private collections across the Americas and Europe, establishing him as a significant figure in the exploration of gesture and abstraction within the Mexican art scene.
