Our Story.
De Barde began in Madrid with a belief that the things we carry should hold meaning.
Founded by Karen Elizabeth, the first collection grew from a desire to create bags that were both beautiful and purposeful- timeless companions designed to move with women through travel, change and the many chapters of their lives.
Each De Barde piece is created in considered editions, bringing together practical elegance, individuality and a respect for craftsmanship. Designed to transcend seasons, the bags are not simply accessories, but objects intended to gather memories and become part of a woman’s story.
As the founding collection, De Barde remains permanently at the heart of Casa De Barde- its physical home and creative headquarters in Madrid.
Designed for movement. Created for women who don’t stand still.
“We design bags.
Your experiences bring them to life”.
The Beginning of
De Barde.
The Next Chapter: Casa De Barde.
Karen Elizabeth - Founder & Curator.
With a background in interiors and an instinct for objects with meaning, Karen Elizabeth founded De Barde from a desire to create timeless pieces that could accompany women through the changing chapters of their lives.
Through the journey of building De Barde, she also came to understand the challenges faced by independent makers and small creative brands. Exceptional work can remain unseen without the right space, context and collective support.
Casa De Barde is her response: a physical home where craftsmanship can be experienced, stories can be shared and carefully chosen work can find a meaningful audience.
Created with curiosity, conviction and a belief in the strength of creative community, Casa De Barde brings together the worlds that have always inspired her - design, travel, culture, craftsmanship and the art of living beautifully.
As De Barde evolved, so did the vision behind it.
The journey of creating the collections - and searching for skilled hands, meaningful materials and enduring forms revealed a wider world of independent designers, artisans and creative voices whose work deserved to be discovered in a more personal way.
Casa De Barde was created to give that world a home.
Opening in Madrid’s Barrio De Salamanca, Casa De Barde is both the physical home and creative headquarters of De Barde. It is also a changing house of exceptional makers, independent brands, artists and beautifully considered objects, brought together through residencies, resident showcases, intimate events and cultural encounters.
Here, the De Barde collections remain at the heart of the house, surrounded by a wider community united by craftsmanship, individuality and story.
Casa De Barde is more than a new space. It is the natural continuation of De Barde a place where beautiful things can be experienced, their stories can be shared and meaningful creative connections can begin.
Where beautiful stories begin.
Our Values.
Craftsmanship
We value skill, time and the human hand. We seek work created with knowledge, intention and respect for its materials, pieces in which the process of making remains an essential part of their beauty.
Story
We believe beautiful things become more meaningful when we understand who made them, where they came from and why they exist. Every object has a story, and every story deserves to be thoughtfully told.
Individuality
We are drawn to work with a distinct point of view. Rather than following passing trends, we choose pieces with character, integrity and the ability to remain relevant through changing seasons and lives.
Preservation
We believe valuable skills and cultural traditions should be carried forward. Through De Barde, Casa De Barde and The Guild Project, we support exceptional makers and help create new possibilities for craftsmanship to endure, evolve and find future audiences.
